Thomas BeckerFor this year’s senior retreat, the senior class went to the RAM house. The RAM house, which is shortened from Roanoke Area Ministries, has been helping homeless and needy people since it was formed in 1987 by providing free meals for anyone in need. The house is used as a day shelter, which means it provides a safe place for people to hang out during the day when they do not have other places to go. The RAM foundation also provides monetary assistance and scholarships for anyone that needs the assistance to help their livelihood. Every year, the RAM house looks for donations of clothes, especially shoes, socks, and any jackets or other cold weather wear to hand out to people who need shelter from the elements. After taking a tour around the RAM house and talking to the people in charge of the operation, the seniors came back and had lunch at Saint Andrews. The rest of the day was spent discussing Catholic Social Teaching and what the class had heard about during the visit to the RAM house. The class then talked about different goals for senior year, along with the strengths and weaknesses of the class.
